TMJ!

TREATMENT OF TRAUMATICALLY INDUCED TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDERS, MYOFASCIAL PAIN AND THE RELATED POST TRAUMATIC HEADACHES.

Dr. Speizer is devoted to the evaluation and treatment of traumatic temporomandibular joint injuries (TMJ), myofascial pain and the related post-traumatic headaches. By far, the leading cause of temporomandibular joint disorders (properly called TMD) is direct trauma to the head, neck, face, and jaws, and whiplash injuries from motor vehicle accidents (MVA’s).

These injuries produce a variety of symptoms that often confuse doctors due to a lack of understanding of the anatomic and physiologic complexity of the injury. For instance, this condition may easily be confused with migraine (vascular) or tension type headaches, or an ear infection.

Additionally, fatigue and anxiety play a role in perpetuating the cycle of pain surrounding TMDs. Finally, undiagnosed referred pain can further cloud the picture. Ask Dr. Speizer to shed light on the proper evaluation and treatment of this often misdiagnosed and under-diagnosed condition

The current expertise of Dr. Speizer and other TMJ specialists are adequate to correct  the structural and functional problems.  The pain and the possible remanifestation of functional difficulty arise because of damage and scar tissue within the muscles of the jaw.  This damage, referred to as "Trigger Points", will likely go untreated if they do not heal of their own accord.

The good news is that Trigger Points can be effectively treated and eliminated with microcurrent therapy.  TMJ no longer has to be a life sentence of disabling pain that often remains after these structural problems have been corrected.  Microcurrent  treatment can relieve the pain and relax the jaw muscles.  TMJ patients can look  forward to relief after years of suffering.
If you have a patient or a friend that currently suffers from the frustrations of lingering TMJ pain, please refer them for an evaluation.  The odds are now in their favor.
